Avoidance of social situations
Gradually confronting feared situations helps build confidence and reinforces your ability to manage discomfort over time. This carefully planned approach breaks the persistent cycle of avoidance, which might offer temporary relief but ultimately strengthens and perpetuates the underlying fear. Additional effective strategies include identifying the root causes of your anxiety, actively challenging negative thought patterns that contribute to distress, and consciously working to reduce reassurance-seeking behaviours that may unknowingly reinforce fears.

We connect participants with trusted providers who offer free, tailored recruitment support and advice for employers. These providers also link to the Australian Government's national hub, offering valuable workplace and employment resources, expert guidance, and financial assistance to promote the hiring of individuals with disabilities. All services are completely free and accessible to people with disabilities, employers, and service providers alike.

THE INITIAL SESSION
The first session is a valuable opportunity to connect with your therapist and share what has brought you to therapy. In this safe and supportive space, you can openly express your thoughts and feelings, outline the goals you'd like to achieve, and discuss how therapy can guide you on your path to growth and healing.
During this collaborative process, your therapist will conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand your unique circumstances better. Together, you'll identify your strengths, available resources, and current support systems, all of which can play a crucial role in fostering positive change. This exploration is designed to help you better understand your situation.
By the end of the session, your therapist will offer tailored recommendations based on your individual needs. Together, you'll create a personalised plan for future sessions, ensuring your therapeutic journey is purposeful, focused, and aligned with your personal objectives.
HOW LONG DOES COUNSELLING OR PSYCHOTHERAPY TAKE?
Therapy sessions last 50 to 60 minutes and offer a focused, supportive space for growth. Occasionally, specialised or feedback sessions may run longer, with the extra time arranged in advance to ensure it is beneficial.
Therapy is tailored to each person, with session frequency varying by individual goals. Some achieve success in 6 to 10 focused sessions, while others benefit from longer-term engagement for more profound healing. After progress, occasional check-ins can maintain stability and address new concerns.
Your therapist collaborates with you throughout, regularly reviewing progress and thoughtfully adjusting the treatment plan to meet your evolving needs and goals.
